Year 10 Design

In Year 10 Design, students dive into the world of brainstorming, sketching, and creating. It's all about developing interesting concepts and making them happen.

Students tackle real-world problems and come up with innovative solutions using design thinking. Whether it's something that affects them more locally or is a national or global challenge, students get to explore and create.

In this course students will:

• Discover needs and opportunities around them and beyond.

• Develop interesting proposals and build prototypes.

• Work solo and team up with classmates to boost their creativity and critical thinking.

• Develop their sketching and communication skills to bring ideas to life.

Pathways

This subject provides a foundation for further studies of Design in Years 11 and 12. The skills developed may also have application to other (Humanities/Science/ Arts/Technology) subjects. For pathways beyond school, please refer to the senior course descriptions.

Structure

Unit 1: Human-Centred & Sustainable Design
  • Explore the needs and challenges of people and the planet
  • Use design thinking to create sustainable, human-centred solutions
  • Sketch, model and prototype ideasÌý
  • Test ideas through stakeholder feedback and material exploration
  • Prototype and refine your solution using tools, machines and materials in the Materials Studios

Assessment: Project Folio & Pitch

Unit 2: Circular Re-Design
  • Rethink waste and design for a circular future
  • Repurpose plastics and everyday materials into new, useful products
  • Use design thinking to turn problems into creative opportunities
  • Visualise and present your concepts to stakeholders
  • Prototype your final design using tools, machines and materials in the Materials Studios
